How can I give a user with pa_admin role edit permissions on a dashboard?

We have a dashboard called 'Demand Review Board'.  We have a user that is listed as the dashboard owner.  She has the pa_admin role, but when she clicks the 'Edit' button, no pencil to edit the dashboard appears.  When I click edit, the pencil does appear, but I have the admin role.  Is there a way to give her edit permission without making her an admin?

I figured it out. I forgot about this other weird issue.

You gave the user edit access to the dashboard (and/or made them the owner) - BUT they are probably not the owners of the underlying reports which are published on the dashboard, and there is no way to update ownership on the reports.

They aren't seeing the pencil to edit the widgets/reports because of this. With the dashboard ownership, they should be able to add new reports and remove ones on there now, but they wont be able to edit the reports.

We've run into this situation when people leave the company. It really creates a mess with the dashboard/report management.

Hi Michael,

Try making that pa_admin user the dashboard owner temporarily to see if that fixes the issue and then change the owner back to System Administrator or whoever is the intended owner. But typically if you share a dashboard with a user and specify "can edit" they should be able to edit the dashboard. I haven't come across this particular use case. This temporarily changing the dashboard owner trick has worked for me in a couple of similar scenarios.

Vince

Thank you for your response Vince.  If I go to Performance Analytics -> Dashboard Administration, this user is listed as the owner of the dashboard.

What version are you on? The PA_admin role changed quite a bit with Istanbul (I think it was Istanbul - the role just isn't very useful now). Also, prior to Jakarta, no one besides admins could own/manage/create dashboards.

First check and confirm she has ITIL role. If you're on Jakarta or later then you can add their name as the dashboard owner and they should be good, assuming they have ITIL.

I'm thinking you may be on a pre-Jakarta version?

Hello Tracy, thanks for your response.  We are on Kingston.  The user does have the itil role, and she is the dashboard owner.
