how do you go back to previous drill down view in a nested drill down view?

i have a report drill down as below. it is nested till 3 different drill down levels. users want to to go back to the previous view from level 3 to level 2 instead of reloading the whole dashboard. how can we do this?

I've tried all answers here to no avail. Does anyone have a resolution to this issue? My 3 layer nested report doesn't have a back button to go back up to the parent layer. Refreshing or browser back button is no good, just resets back to the highest layer.
