The Sovereign Cloud Platform Portfolio
Organizations around the world face an increasingly complex landscape of data sovereignty mandates, regulatory requirements, and operational constraints. Not every environment can connect to the public cloud. That's why ServiceNow offers a portfolio of deployment options designed to meet you where you are, with the right level of control, compliance, and capability for your needs.
What is Private Stack?
Private Stack is ServiceNow's customer/partner-operated deployment model formerly known as our "self-hosted" or "on-premise" offering. It delivers the same application software that runs in our commercial cloud, but deployed and operated within your own infrastructure. You own and manage the hardware, database, load balancers, networking, and operating system. ServiceNow provides the application software, deployment guidance, upgrade packages, and support.
This isn't a new capability, but rather a formalization of a platform we've been quietly growing for years. Private Stack serves organizations across defense, government, banking, telecom, and technology sectors worldwide.
Flexible Deployment: Your Infrastructure, Your Choice
Private Stack lets you choose the deployment model that fits your operational reality. ServiceNow provides the software, configuration guidance, and tested reference architectures — you bring the compute, storage, and network.
Architecture at a Glance
A Private Stack deployment mirrors the architecture ServiceNow uses in its own cloud — load balancer tier, application server tier, and database tier — with the customer or partner owning and operating all layers. The application software is identical to what runs in our hosted clouds.
ServiceNow provides reference architectures to help customers achieve disaster recovery and backup needs, and customers should expect to purchase a workshop through ServiceNow which includes basic operation and architecture to meet their needs.
Generative AI — Available on Private Stack
Generative AI capabilities are available for Private Stack customers across ITSM, CSM, ITOM, HRSD, SecOps, FSM, SPM, and more. Private Stack GenAI runs on one of the following:
- ServiceNow's production LLM models on customer-owned GPU infrastructure
- Bring Your Own Key model for customers with access to Azure OpenAI, AWS Anthropic, or Google Gemini
- Customers can provide their own LLM, but with a more limited experience
Important notes for AI: Private Stack GenAI images are updated twice a year. Data sharing is disabled by default. AI Agents are supported from the Zurich release onward. Customers consume Now Assist credits under the same pricing model as commercial SaaS. Not all features are at parity with our commercial release.
Platform Feature Availability (Australia Release)
Private Stack customers receive the same application software as cloud customers. Most platform capabilities are available, with some features unavailable due to dependencies on ServiceNow-hosted services. Here are key highlights from the latest release:

Who Runs Private Stack Today?
Our Private Stack customer base spans 28 countries across various industries. These organizations share a common thread they need the full power of the Now Platform but operate under sovereignty, classification, or connectivity constraints that prevent them from using a public cloud.
Getting Started with Private Stack
Private Stack is available today. The path to deployment begins with your ServiceNow account team. Your account team will work to understand your needs. Customers should expect to purchase a workshop from ServiceNow which covers architecture planning, hardware sizing, database selection, supporting component deployment, and operational readiness.
ServiceNow family release files are available to all Private Stack customers on the same date as cloud customers. Not all features are at parity with our cloud releases.
