Difference between Perpetual + Maintenance License Type & Separate Entitlements for Each?

Hello,

I understand the value of having Perpetual entitlements and Maintenance entitlements associated to them, but I don't fully understand the use case for the combined Perpetual + Maintenance entitlements.

 

Does anyone regularly use combined Perpetual + Maintenance entitlements? What is your use case/how do you use them?

 The main use cases are for Microsoft entitlements where the license is purchased with Software Assurance.
