We are planning to maintain software models and their lifecycles (including versions and related details) within ServiceNow. However, at this stage, we are not looking to use the Software Asset Management module.
Could someone please share any documentation links, or best practices for managing software products and their lifecycles without relying on SAM?
Most of the resources I’ve come across are primarily aligned with SAM, which makes it challenging to identify the right approach for our use case. Any guidance or relevant documentation would be greatly appreciated.
As of now, I'm thinking to setup below
Products (Software model table)
Sold Products (Which customers bought the products)
Services (What all services avaiable for that product, but here I don't see any field refers to "Product(Software model table), then how can we utilise this table effecitively?
Install base table (to know which all softwares are installed in customer instances)
For Version manitaince.. simply we need to use 1.0, 2.0 like that in the Software model table?
what is the best practice? and how services can be utilised?
what is discovery model?
is software installations are mandtory?or it requires only when we want to track licenses?
how to maintain bundle products?
can some one please help me to flow that needs to be followed for this lifecycle.

Hi @Sathwik1,
A good starting point is the Ask a Ranger: Software Asset Management series, which covers setup, success factors and all product features.
If you have any chance of accessing the Best Practices library, you can review the process manual after changing the product to IT Asset Management.
Hope this helps!
