Some software licenses count when it is in Production or Test. Some software licenses only count in a Production environment and not in Test. We would like to be able to filter out Test software installations when appropriate.
Does anyone else do this? (Seperate PROD from TEST software installations)
What field would be good to use? Do we need to create a custom field to be able to filter on?
What is your process to identify and filter PROD vs TEST software installations?
I also assume we would need to use something in the discovered CI to identify Prod or Test. I’m looking at OS Domain, DNS Domain, or the “Environment” field. Do other use these fields?

@jaredflanders If you are referring to Software asset management - license management, you can add software install condition like "installed on --> environment is Production" on software model records to filter out test servers.
Thanks,
Dinesh
Please accept the solution and thumbs up if it answers your question.

Hi @jaredflanders,
correct, the recommend way is to use the OOTB field "Environment" to scope the software models. Please keep in mind, this attribute can't be gathered by sources like Discovery or SCCM and you need an additional source (e.g., Hardware Asset Management, etc.) to update the CI with this data.
Please use a condition name for more transparency between the models.
To filter out the data, I would recommend to create a second software model for the same product, set the install condition for the environment to "TEST/DEV) as descripted by @Dinesh Reddy By and uncheck the "License under management" flag. Due to the install condition all non-prod installs will be linked to the software model and unchecked LuM flag excludes the records/software model from being processed by the reconcole

Is the "Environment" field available in Hardware Asset Management? I do not see it as an available field.
Also, I do not see the “Environment” field available in Software Asset Management.
Please expound on your comment, “Please use a condition name for more transparency between the models.”
I apologize, but the third paragraph has me a bit lost. I do not see a field called “License under management”.

I've received more information internally and now understand the "create a second software model" and that "License under management" is in the software model (not software installations).
We have things to think about internally and I will reply once we decide what our path forward will be. Obviously, this all starts with populating the "environment field". Currently, at our computer level in the CMDB, only 1/3 have the environment field populated.
