Hello All,

Just wanted to check how Servicenow calculates the number of licenses used by the customer for SAM Pro, is it based on role we give to the users or number of tables been utilized for that?

Thanks!

Hi,
It depends on the resource type subscription unit.

  • Managed IT Resource Types-
“Server” is any physical or virtual server that is represented as a configuration item (“CI”)
in a CMDB table listed below and managed by the Software Asset Management
    application.
  • “End User Computing Device” is any physical or virtual non-Server CI in a CMDB table
listed below and managed by the Software Asset Management application.

“SaaS Subscription User” is any unique User Principal Name in the SaaS Subscription User
table listed below managed by the Software Asset Management application.
Servers and End User Computing Devices are managed by the Software Asset
Management application when the installed software on the Managed IT
Resources is represented in the cmdb_sam_sw_install table.

Each Managed IT Resource Type defined in Section 2.1 will be counted towards a
Subscription Unit based on a predefined ratio of Subscription Unit to Managed IT
Resource per the table below:

Hi Sravanthicheguri

We have SAM Pro where I am at, it is based on capacity, So it calculates how many active computers (CI's) its pulling software from in your environment

As of San Diego, unit of consumption for SAMP

adding one more point to Scott.

The user license for SAM Pro regarding access to SAM Pro, ITSM Fulfiller/Business Stakeholder licenses are required because SAM Pro is on top of ITSM. I'm commenting on this because it's the most confusing point to calculate the number of licenses for SAM Pro rather than CI.

This also depends on the actual SKU you have for SAM Pro, our implementation has the older SKU which uses "Computer" as the metric which covers physical and virtual end user devices and physical and virtual servers and does not use subscription units so the table above doesn't apply.
