How to relate Business Application and Application Service to Software Model

Hi,

we are on the begining of using SAM. We haven't rolled out Discovery, nor have we bought Enterprise Architecture Management (maybe somewhere in the future).

So here the question, how would you relate Business Application and Application Service to a Software Model? All ways described by documentation are mentioning only EAM.

I currently would go for creating relationsships between Application Service and used Software Models (as this is a 1:n relation).

Do you think this would be ok for the start?

Thanks,

Frank

hii i will share my info what i know

To relate Business Application and Application Service to the Software Model, I usually think of it in terms of structure and function. The Software Model represents the technical blueprint — it describes how software components are designed and how they behave. The Business Application sits on top of that; it represents the actual tool or system used by the business to perform specific tasks — like CRM, HR management, etc.

The Application Service, on the other hand, is the functionality that supports the Business Application. So if the Business Application is a ticketing system, the Application Services would include things like user authentication, ticket creation, and notification delivery.

So in short:

  • The Software Model defines the technical design,

  • The Application Services are the reusable functional blocks,

  • And the Business Application is the combination of those services that the business actually uses.

All three layers work together — the services implement the logic, the model defines the structure, and the application delivers the value to the end user."

Hi @leelamanipe

thanks for the reply. This I read as well, the question is now, where to build the relation, especially as Application Services (e.g. SAP HR PROD), consist of more Software Models, which is linked to the Licences at the end.

Much appreciate your comment !

Best regards,
