Pricing errors when changing subscription periods in entitlements

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help with some clarification here.
On software entitlements, I understand that the total cost of the entitlement is calculated based on license count, cost and subscription period. Depending on the subscription period selected, this will effect the total cost.
My question though. Does the total cost on an entitlement using either annually, quarterly or monthly subscription periods change as the entitlements grows older?
I tested this with a new entitlement with a start date starting today and ending a year from now, the total cost, to my understanding, was calculated correctly on all subscription period choices. I then changed the start date to 6 months ago and the end to 6 months from now. The total cost prices were completely different using annually, quarterly or monthly. Is this how entitlements costs are intended to work? I would expect to see the overall cost of a license no matter how long through a term a license is.
Any help or advise on this would be greatly appreciated.
