Software Allocation condition

Hi @SrinivasRamanu1 , @dreinhardt

I'm checking to see if allocation conditions on software entitlements works. If yes what conditions should be utilized if we want specific machines to be allocated by a certain software entitlement. I'm currently using: Name [Computer] > starts with > "Keyword" condition but it does not seem to be making allocations after successful completion of scheduled reconciliation job. Please help with the condition If I'm using them incorrectly. In my use-case, there are 2 sets of entitlements (same product and metrics) but one set can be utilized by certain machines only and I have added the machines name keywords. I couldn't utilize software install condition on software model since the model is common in this case so I need something at entitlement level that we can use to allocate licenses.

Hi @Parul Chaudhary ,

the allocation conditions on the software entitlement level only support the end user in the selection of the CI / user for the allocation. Thus, you still have to allocate the CIs / users to the respective entitlement.

The allocation conditions define which CIs / users are available for selection in order to allocate the CI / user to the entitlement.

From your description it reads as if you want to achieve that your entitlement only consumes specific CIs. I see the following options:

1) Allocate CIs manually. -> The license reconciliation processes allocated CI / users first, independently if consumption is "technically" calculated for these CI / users. Consumption may be still calculated for CI / users which do not match your expected allocation filter.

2) Create and link a license consumption rule to the entitlement -> This option can be used if the CIs can be identified by "foundation data", e.g. location. The CI attributes like hostname are not available.

3) Create an additional software model with installation condition and link this model to the entitlement. -> You receive reconciliation results for both models. You can be sure that the condition is dynamically applied to new CIs,

Hope it helps.

Best, Christian
