Software Inference Suite on SW Installations

Hello,

after doing a lot of tests, I cannot determine the reason of what seems a strange behavior, It's not clear If i'm doing mistakes in the configuration of Suites or there are some issues in the SAM OOTB Process. I explain what I mean:

I simply need to cover some SW Installations with the License of a Suite Parent, I've put on the  Software Model "Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3"  , the SW Model ""Microsoft HEVC Video Extension" as a Suite Child with Inference Number = 1, meaning that at least 1 SW Installation is needed to use the License of the Suite Parent but , that's the strange behavior: on the SW Installation records only for a minimal part of them the Inferred Suite is calculated ( with Inference Level '999' ) , for the rest nothing is calculated and that's happen for all SW Installations of all SW Models with a Parent Suite, despite there are rights available on the Suite Parent.

Can someone help me to understand the reason of this behavior? This has an high impact because for SW that have SW Installations I cannot infer the Suite and thus use the License of Suite Parent. to cover the SW Installation.

Thanks

Antonio

Hi @tony_1989 ,

could you please check the „software models result“ for each installation? This column should give you more insights where the installs are assigned to and based on this, you could check if any other software model is consuming this product.

I would also recommend to the review the mentioned model of the product in the SAM workspace to see if any „install required actions“ etc his blocking the correct assignment based on the suite setup. Ensure all discovery models for this product are normalized as expected.

Best, Dennis

Should my response prove helpful, please consider marking it as the Accepted Solution/Helpful to assist closing this thread.

Hello,

thanks for your answer, as you can see the Software Model Result is populated only for 5 SW Installations out of 56.238 and for me this has no sense, because why if the Discovery Models have the same SW Model in which I configured the Suite Parent "Microsoft 365 Enterprise E5", only for 5 Installations the inference has been calculated? And this happens for every SW Models with SW Installations that have a Suite Parent.

I checked your suggestion and this is the result:

1) All Discovery Models are correctly normalized

2) No other SW Models is consuming this product

3) In the "License Workbench" in the SW Asset Workspace I see the following but this is due the fact that the Inference has not been calculated , then the system doesn't know what Entitlement apply

Hi Tony,

If I'm reading your post correctly you have set the inference on the 'Microsoft HEVC Video Extension' software model but what installs to be inferred to the 'Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3 model'?

If the intention is that all installs of 'Microsoft HEVC Video Extension' roll up to the E5 model it's the inference settings at this level which will drive the behaviour you are expecting.

Inference is set at the Suite parent level not the Suite Components (child).

Out of the box the Microsoft Microsoft 365 Enterprise E5 model has an Inference of 2, meaning that at least two components need to be installed before an install is infered to this model, e.g. 'Microsoft Office 365 Enterprise E5' + 'Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 1'.

See below for further information but hopefully this helps!

Hello dbook,

as you can see on the Suite Parent "Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3" tehre is the Software Model "MICROSOFT HEVC Video Extension" as Suite Component and the Inference option "Number" is set as "1"
