Hi dfsfe
ITAM is about "asset". "asset" implies something that is owned. Usually something that was purchased.
There are hardware assets and software assets. Hardware asset is about keeping track of devices in the company such as physical devices such as pcs, servers, and network equipment.
Software asset is about keeping track of software assets such as MS Windows OS licenses and purchases application software. Cloud SaaS licenses and consumable are other types of assets.
Asset management is about keep track of these assets and their valuation.
ITSM is about delivery of IT services to customers and other users. That is, it's about processes and tasks. It may involve creating a request, having it approved, and fulfilling the request.
Tasks may have relationship with asset. For example, a task to purchase a new pc and deliver it to a user or a task to fix a stopped server/network/service.
Tasks also have relationship with users, groups, and roles because tasks are often done by people within certain group with certain role.
Assets have accounting values in itself, but the accounting value of a task is in it's outcome and not in the task itself.
