We want to disable an assignment rule. What will happen to the existing Vulnerable items that were originally assigned using that assignment group ?

They should remain the same unless a) the assignment rules are re-applied, so the VITs will go be ran through the active assignment rules or b) an update is made to the record which forces a re-apply to the VIT (possibly re-opened etc).

Ultimately the records should match your active assignment rules, so you would want to reapply them to get them assigned correctly. If the reapply assignment rules are ran the VITs previously assigned via the disabled rule will be updated to the first hierarchal applicable assignment rule.

Here is the link to some documentation, including some noteworthy system properties/scheduled jobs.

If the active VITs/RTs are already assigned using the existing assignment rule it remains the same until and unless you reapply a new assignment rule. Only the new incoming VITs will be assigned using the active assignment rules even if it is not reapplied.

Hope this helps!
