I need to create Parent/child incidents without creating a problem ticket.

I have incidents for which I often need to create another incident and reference the original.   I would like to have a parent/child type relationship where the variables from the parent ticket carry over if possible.

There's an out of box 'parent' field you can use for this.   You'll just need to setup the Related List on Incident, and create a UI Action that pulls whatever fields you want over.   Without knowing the fields, I can't really offer up an example.


where would I set up related list?   On the incident table?


Yep.



Right-click your Incident form header:

Add Incident --> Parent

You can then decide what you want to do with that Related List:

Any Incidents created using the New button will auto-fill the 'Parent' and create the relation you're looking for.



If you want to have the reference back, just add the 'Parent' field to your Incident form somewhere.


No way to carry over the variables?
