Hi
The CI Class "Hardware" [cmdb_ci_hardware] has multiple Reference fields targeting the User Table.
- Managed by
- Owned by
- Assigned to
- Supported by
Is there any documentation out there which describes which one is for which use case?
-> e.g. John Doe is responsible for a Windows Server SRV123... Is he the owner or manager in the terminology of ServiceNow?
All I found was this description on DOCS:
https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/quebec-servicenow-platform/page/product/configuration-management/concept/class-hardware.html
--> The Owned By, Assigned To, Managed By, and Supported By are reference attributes to the User [sys_user] table. The Assignment Group and Support Group are reference attributes to the Group [sys_user_group] table.
Thanks Marc

Hi Marc,
Several of the fields have a more detailed in the Asset & CI Management document. You can find it here at
Here is a quick copy from that page
| General
Not all fields are available for each type of asset. |
|
| Asset tag | Alphanumeric information assigned by your organization to help track the asset. |
| State | Current state of the asset, such as On order or In use. |
| Assigned to | Person using or primarily responsible for this item. This field is visible when the asset state is In Use. |
| Managed by | Person who maintains the asset. This can be different from the person in the Owned by field. |
| Owned by | Person who has financial ownership of the asset. This can be different from the person in the Managed by field. |
