Custom URLs to point to different portals

Hi there Community...

I have two questions about Custom URLs.

Context:

A client of mine is wanting to have (desired architecture) two custom URLs implemented for their PROD instance. 

it.domain.com     and     hr.domain.com

Upon authentication, they want the user to be routed to Employee Center (if it's HR - /esc) and the soon to be legacy Service Portal (if it's IT - /sp).

Questions:

1. Is this possible using the native login (/login.do or /welcome.do)?

2. Is this technically feasible using a SSO/IDP such as Okta or Symantec SiteMinder?

PS: From my reading on the docs.servicenow.com page, I concluded that you can only route the user to one portal.
