Hi,
Is there an easy way to export a update set with many different customer updates attached to it, to an xml file. Then to import the update set with changes to another instance, to get the updates onto this instance. (without using update sources).
If you export to xml, will all the underlaid changes also be exported? What is best practise.

Best practice is to retrieve from the update source. But you can export complete update set. Once you complete update set, you will find a UI action, Export to XML in the left bottom of the update set. It will export it with all the updates within.

I can't find a way to make the XML export also include the Customer Updates...

If you click on Export to XML via Related Links it will include all customer updates.
Not if you navigate via the Additional actions:
