Install custom application without selecting subscription

Hi,

I build a custom application for a customer and was tasked with deploying it to their production environment today. I published the application in studio and wanted to install it on prod via "my company application", but I can't install it without selecting a subscription.

For all other custom applications, the customer didn't select a subscription as well, I can see that every time I publish a new version of an existing application - there I'm not forced to select a subscription, it's just a reminder. The customer told me that it's all well below their contractual limits, they're just not using the subscription application in their instance. They have a huge platform with multiple contractors working on different custom applications, so i'm inclined to believe that they're not trying to deceive their way into less license costs.

So I guess my question is, how can I install a custom application without selecting a subscription? Would publishing the application to an update set and importing that first maybe work?

UPDATE SETS! yes you mentioned exactly what I would advise. I am actually a big fan of update sets. Update sets dont ask you anything about subscriptions.

@Hans Peter found the answer to this question? I'm curious as well...

I'm trying to figure this out as well. Is there a way to specify the license in the sub-prod and have it carried up to the Production environment? I don't want to specify the same App Engine Studio license every time I upgrade.
