Hi Allison,

Thank you for reaching out to us, and congratulations on developing the taxonomies for Knowledge.

Here are some key thoughts:

General Guidance

  • Start small and iterate
  • Collect as much input as you can for continuous improvement
  • Plan ahead

Approaching taxonomy development (high level)

  1. Audience focus
    • Identify your user groups. They could be Employees, Partners, Customers, etc.
    • Do a few draft versions and review them with teams to understand what works for them - and what content is most valuable to them.
    • Iterate and review
  2. Management system
    • Develop and store the taxonomy
    • Governance & schedules
  3. Implementation requirements
    • User interface - Navigation? Search Facets?
    • Content tagging / metadata for authors

These are all high-level general rules of thumb. You don't have to take every bullet and apply it.

One thing all taxonomists will tell you is: The number 1 rule of taxonomy development is to remember it is never done.

Feel free to reach out to our services teams to see how they might be able to help you

Good luck!

Sarah
