Hi all.
We are new to SN and are configuring it in advance of going live.
I'm investigating the option of adding a year prefix for example to the Incident Table.
For example changing the prefix from "INC" to "INC-23-".
I would also set the Counter to 1.
This would result in new incident tickets being "numbered" as follows: INC-23-0000001, INC-23-0000002, etc.
At the start of every year I would update the prefix to the current year e.g. "INC-24" and reset the counter back to 1 again. so new incident ticket numbers would be INC-24-0000001, INC-24-0000002 etc.
I would be covered until the year 2099 🙂
Now I'm sure you may question the value in such a configuration, but it's just a very approx. immediate visually clue as to when a ticket was created, but really my question is:
- Are their any gothas to such a configuration?
- While the Number is a visual "unique" identifier to a records I presume the hidden sys_id column is the true primary key to a table. Yes /No?
Would be interested in knowing if anybody did something similar (and hopefully not regret it)
Regards,
Thomas
