Owned by group on CI and asset

As an enterprise organization you have to assign every kind of ownership and responsibility to a group of people instead of to a single person. At least a "Managed by group" is available for configuration items and assets although there is no synchronisation between CI and asset configured in the standard instance. But this is a problem you can fix easily and thats not my issue. Nevertheless also the ownership have to be assigned to a group instead of a single user. If your company owns a data center you do not assign the ownership (financially) of the assets to a single person but to a group of people instead. Why there is no "Owned by group" on configuration items or assets? It is easy to create a new field on the tables but is there another way to manage the owners in groups? Or is there even another functionality that I am not aware of?

Your concern is one I've seen raised many times and the best answer thus far as been exactly the one that you propose; add additional fields to support the concept of groups as owners vs. individual users. Before Orlando this was solution for Managed By as well, until it became a feature. The reason that it doesn't exist as an option out of the box within the product may be as simple as no one has asked for it to become a feature, or not enough have.

We do have a voice that we can use in the community, and raising an idea for this enhancement would be a good place to start.

Hi Marko,

If it was me, I would just add a new field (row in the table) in order to control what you are looking for.

I trust this helps.
