Today we have implemented IT and HR eServices via the Service Portal and as of Nov will be on the latest London Release. Our environment is 70%+/- of our employees are non-traditional workers who don't use computers to execute their daily job. When needed they use employee Kiosks and other means to acquire and execute what they need. Similar to hospitals, entertainment, and services organizations. For company communications we presently have been using a customized UI sitting on Sharepoint '13. To continue to drive the investment in ServiceNow we have been reviewing SN to see if we could create our NextGen Communication platform on ServiceNow.
Curious -
- Has anyone attempted this direction? if yes/no I would be very appreciative to understand the reasoning behind your decision.
- Is this a direction that ServiceNow is taking and representing in their roadmap?
- Regardless of the first two questions - with your background of ServiceNow - what would you understand as challenges we should be watching for?
Based on any responses I may have more questions.
Thanks all!

So technically, as least based on wikipedia, "An intranet is a private network accessible only to an organization's staff."
So by that definition, depending on WHO can get into your instance it may already be an intranet.
At my former employers only 1 in the last 10 years has had a traditional intranet that was seperate from servicenow.
The rest used tools that employees had access to collaborate and communicate with servicenow generally being the central site that may refer to other sites.
Challenges you will come up against is making sure the users are able to find what they are looking for. Identifying if they are successful or not and measuring that metric will be key to the success of this. However, if your former intranet never measured that information, you're breaking ground as the stat is unknown. Might be worth while to ask the sharepoint folks to measure that stuff, (searches->result clikced metrics) and then replicating the saem in sn to compare success.

Hi Michael,
I work with a company called NewRocket, founded by one of the creators of the Service Portal for ServiceNow, Nathan Firth. Our work is solely focused on creating innovative enterprise portals leveraging the ServiceNow platform. We've completed over 70 portals for some of the most recognizable brands in the world, including Sharepoint migrations. We integrate with industry leading enterprise SAAS providers and have a suite of proprietary products that can help you create the unified intranet portal experience you are asking about.
Prior to NewRocket, I was responsible for enterprise user experience at Home Depot, so I'm very familiar with the landscape of corporate intranet providers and the complexities of enterprise level user management, content management, process management, etc. and I think ServiceNow is perfectly positioned, as a platform, to serve that space. They are continuously adding new features, have extensive integration and mid-server capabilities, their platform is endlessly extensible, and NewRocket is the provider to bridge the gap between their toolset and your enterprise goals and intranet requirements.
For the record, I am not in sales, I'm just excited about the potential of ServiceNow to solve the complex intranet problem and when i saw your post I thought it would be good for us to connect. I'd be happy to chat with you about your current infrastructure, NewRocket's products and services, and your goals.
Hope to talk soon!
Chad

I found this old post via a Google search today. Now we have so many customers using ServiceNow as their modern intranet portal it's kind of funny seeing what we were discussing all those years ago.
