Unrestricted User vs Per User License

Hi all,

for me it is not much clear the difference between these two license type, for example with ITSM application:

  • Per User license indicates the number of fulfiller users, for example if the number is 200 it means that i can have maximum 200 users with fulfiller role
  • Unrestricted User license indicates that i can assign unlimited roles to users

I can't understand the part "unlimited roles", there is a limit about the number of roles i can assign to user in a Per User license? If i assign for example 10 fulfiller roles to an user it is counted as one license assigned to that user or ten licenses??

Thanks

Hi Antonio,

For anything relating to licensing or subscriptions I strongly suggest to reach out to ServiceNow Account Manager always as these may differ customer to customer.

To answer your question, if you assign 10 fulfiller roles if these are different it will be counted as 10 licenses if same i.e. ITIL for instance from 10 different groups then it will be counted as 1 license.

I don't think this statement is correct.

"To answer your question, if you assign 10 fulfiller roles if these are different it will be counted as 10 licenses if same i.e. ITIL for instance from 10 different groups then it will be counted as 1 license." My understanding is that if a user has a fulfiller role i.e. itil. Then they take 1 licensed seat. If that user is in 10 groups and each group has the itil role, they still only count as 1 seat. If they have itil, then they consume a license no matter how many other groups they are in. This also goes for roles. If they have 1 fulfiller role i.e. itil and need a second fulfiller role to access other areas i.e. problem They still only consume one seat.  Again, this should be discussed with your ServiceNow Account Manager for clarification.

Trying to understand your answer and relate it to a real scenario.  In your answer, are you saying if I assign the itil role to 10 different users, then it's 10 licenses but if I assign the itil role to a group of 10 people then it's only 1 license utilized?

Example 1 - if I assign the roles to the individuals then I'm utilizing 2 licenses?

  • Employee 1 - itil role assigned
  • Employee 2 - itil role assigned

Example 2 - if I only assign the group the itil role then I'm only utilizing 1 license?

  • Group A - itil role
    • Employee 3 (no roles assigned at user level)
    • Employee 4 (no roles assigned at user level)

Example 3 - if I only assign the group the itil role but also include someone that has been granted the itil role at the individual level, then I'm utilizing 2 licenses?

  • Group A - itil role
    • Employee 3 (no roles assigned at user level)
    • Employee 4 (no roles assigned at user level)
    • Employee 1 (role assigned at user level)

Thanks!

KatNJack - what they are meaning is that if user "joe" is part of 5 groups, and all of those groups have included the 'itil' role (for example) we are only going to consume "1" license for joe.  Not 5.
