Using Order Guide, multiple items are ordered together.
Order Guide submits a single request that generates several items(RITMS).
Usually a catalog item is a single RITM
Example: Starter Request - Which may consists of several items like laptop allocation, email allocation, Peripherals etc

Hi,
Just to provide this for yourself and future readers, it's always best to point to documentation when we can.
Order guides are described and utilized as follows: https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/sandiego-servicenow-platform/page/product/service-catalog-managem...
Then above documentation explains all that as well as how to create one, etc.
Your "shopping cart" can order multiple items together as well, under one request, so that definition alone wouldn't give you the full context.
