Duplicate Additional Comments (sys_journal_field) created multiple times on HR Case (sn_hr_core_case

Hi all,

I’m investigating an issue where the same Additional comment is being added multiple times on an HR Case.

 

Details:

 

  • Table: sn_hr_core_case
  • In sys_journal_field, I can see 3 separate journal records with the same element_id (same HR case) and identical value.
  • Example journal record shows:
    • sys_created_by = <user>
    • sys_created_on = <timestamp>
    • value = "Reason for rejection: …"
  •  

 

 

So this is not just an Activity Stream display issue — it’s multiple inserts into sys_journal_field.

 

Question:

What are the most common causes for duplicate journal entries on the same record, and what is the best way to identify the source (e.g., portal double-submit, Business Rule + Flow writing comments, inbound email loop)?

 

Any guidance on where to look next (or specific logs/tables to correlate) would be appreciated.

Hi @SindhiaR,

 

The most likely cause could be a “before” or “after” Business Rule on the HR Case table that includes a current.update() call. This can cause the same rule to execute again, resulting in a loop and duplicate record creation.
