Characteristics based on Custom Table

I feel like you are proposing a technical solution without identifying what the problem is you are trying to solve.  What is the purpose of the external table? - are we using it to drive behaviour of SOM or do we need to populate records as part of the Quote/Order fulfilment journey.       Using a Telco/TMF definition to this - it sounds like a scenario where an external application defines its characteristic requiremeents - we ingest these definitions as a product spec (TMF620) or service spec (TMF633) , built more intelligence in the catalog - using Product spec compositions/bundles or Product Offering relationships - and at order fulfilment time we instantiate a product order or service order for the element and call to the southbound application using the opposing api call (TMF622 -Product Order) / TMF641 -Service Order)

I am trying to explore a possibility of doing a self service option for end user to configure an existing product e.g. simple changes like adding new attribute values. Yes. i will drive quote/order journey as new values may affect the pricing part.
