Allowing project user to create project tasks?

Is it possible to allow project users to create new project tasks?   From what I understand, only users with the it_project_manager role can create project tasks.   But in many instances, there are sub tasks within a project that the assigned resource needs to create.

Thanks,

Jenny

Hi Jenny,

I think that you already answered your own question. If the resource needs to create a task, they are no longer just a resource, they are now a project manager (managing/manipulating the project plan) and therefore need the manager role to do so.

Hi Chuck -

I agree with your response to Jenny, but I have received similar questions from within my organization. I was thinking that project users may be able to create Checklists on a task, is this possible and do you have any guidance where this is concerned?

Thanks,

Carver

Hi Carver,

I believe checklists are within scope. In fact, the checklist is on the project task by default (at least what I see in Istanbul.)

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for your reply!   I agree that the resource shouldn't be manipulating the project plan. However, in our organization, only the assigned resources would know the detailed "activities" that are required for any given project.

For creating checklist for a project task, on ServiceNow Product Documentation Page Use a project task checklist, it mentions that "it_project_manager" role is required to create project task checklist.   I tested with a "it_project_user" user account and it seems that the user can create project tasks.   I wonder if that's an error on the documentation site?

Thanks,

Jenny
