Calculate EAC and ETC on subproject

TeresaCusatis

Hi,

Is it possible to calculate and show the ETC and the EAC values to subproject based on expense lines and cost plan defined in subproject, using related links ‘Calculate completion Estimate’ ?

I only see the roll-up to the parent, but I can't see the relative values on subproject financial form.

Thank's for help

Hello @TeresaCusatis ,

Thanks for checking with the community.

Here is the recording which I have created for another group but for the same question.

I've added the explanation along with the screenshot because after sometime if recording is not available, users can read the below explanation.

Yes, it is possible to view the equivalent of ETC and EAC at the sub-project level, although the terminology and user experience have evolved in recent releases.

A few points that may help:

  • EAC (Estimate at Completion) is now represented as Forecast.
  • ETC (Estimate to Complete) is now represented as Remaining Estimate.
  • The underlying calculations remain the same.

Forecast (formerly EAC) = Actuals + Remaining Estimate

Where:

  • Actuals = Sum of processed expense lines through the last fiscal period.
  • Remaining Estimate (formerly ETC) = Total planned cost for the current and future fiscal periods.

Even though you may not see fields labeled explicitly as EAC and ETC on the sub-project financial form in Classic UI, the values are still available:

  • Forecast shows the projected total cost at completion.
  • Remaining Estimate shows the planned costs remaining for current and future fiscal periods.
You should be able to view these values directly within the Project Workspace for the sub-project -> Financials.

Rollup Behavior:

The financial values calculated for sub-projects continue to roll up to the parent project. Therefore:

  • Sub-project Forecast and Remaining Estimate are calculated independently.
  • Parent project values aggregate the corresponding values from child projects via rollup logic.
So, to summarize: If you're looking for the classic ETC/EAC labels, check the Project Workspace financial views and use the information (i) icons next to the financial metrics to review the formulas being applied. While the terminology has changed, the equivalent metrics are still calculated at the sub-project level - screenshot below.

Note:

The "Forecast" and the "Remaining Estimate" fields are on the fly calculated for the sub project. This means though you can view the values of these fields at the sub project level from the Project workspace -> Financials, these fields do not exist at the sub-project level.

Based on your ask, this should NOT impact because the values for both the fields are visible at the sub project level.

Hope this helps and if it does, please mark the response as correct to help me and other community members.

Thank You!

Hi Namita,

thank's for your reply, if I understand correctly, it isn't possible to see the fields 'Forecast' (formerly EAC) and 'Remaining Estimate' (formerly ETC) on classic finacials view, but only on project workspace. It is right?

Regards

Teresa

Hello @TeresaCusatis ,

I meant you can see the  'Forecast' (formerly EAC) and 'Remaining Estimate' (formerly ETC) on the Project workspace -> Financials because these values are calculated on the fly for the sub project. So as a functional user, such as project manager,  you should get the values.

However, for the sub project, on the classic UI , these fields are not displayed on the UI.. Though you can see them in the selected section, in case you try to configure the Form Layout of the sub project; screenshot below. I am sharing all this information to keep the users posted that this is out of the box behavior for the sub project and you should not feel as if you are doing something incorrect.

Additional Information to keep you posted on the Behavior - There is a UI Policy "Show 'forecast' field only for top project".

After unchecking ""Reverse if false"", you would start getting the fields - "Estimate at completion" and "Estimate to complete" - on the subproject; screenshots below.

Screenshot 2026-09-20 at 7.59.55 PM.png

But even after clicking on the related link - Calculate Completion Estimates - the ETC and EAC fields would display 0 for the subproject....

Here is the summary:

1) Project Workspace:  'Forecast' (formerly EAC) and 'Remaining Estimate' (formerly ETC) on the Project workspace -> Financials shows the correct values both for the parent as well as for the sub project.

2) Classic UI: EAC and ETC shows the correct values on the parent project. The values include the rolled up values from the corresponding fields of the sub project.

3)  Classic UI: EAC and ETC is not available for the sub project.

Hope this clarifies and if it does, please mark the response as correct to help me and other community members.

Thank You!
