History not tracked when a template is applied to a project

We have a customer that applies different kinds of templates to their projects. One project template changed the Portfolio value to something they were not aware of, but the history did not show who, or why the field value changed. We tracked it down to a field value which was set in the template itself.

 

My question, is why was history not captured when the Portfolio value changed when a template was applied? Shouldn't it at least have an audit history record associated? 

 

Is there anything we can do to configure our project templates to record a history trail of the values that have changed?

I just checked it on my PDI and I have an audit record on changing the name of a portfolio when applying a template that performs a name change. Is there anything customized on your instance related to this?

I would log a ticket with NowSupport with this question, because it seems that it should work (unless, of course, there is no audit on the name field, but I assume that has already been checked).

When a user changes the Portfolio field directly in the Project it shows the change in the history. But not when a template changes the value. I've looked at everything else, and it looks like everything is configured correctly to track the history on the changes. 😓

I just tried in our sandbox (unaltered Vancouver environment) and it doesn't track the change to the Portfolio field when a template is applied, but it does when a user changes the value. I'll open a ticket with NowSupport. Thank you!
