How do I deactivate/close a Fiscal period?

Hello Experts,
I am trying to hide a fiscal year in my Service Now instance. For example, I am trying to close out the FY17: M01 fiscal period. Even after marking the 'Open' field as FALSE, I see the fiscal period show up in the lookup field.
What happens if I deactivate a fiscal period? - I see an error message like this - Click Deactivate to confirm that you want to remove all support schedules after 2018-06-27 (the current date)
I would appreciate help from you guys about how to resolve this issue.

Hi Srujith,
I would suggest you to try modifying the reference qualifier for fiscal period to show only Open field value as True Fiscal periods.

That certainly helps in showing only Open Fiscal periods.
Do you know more about 'Deactivating' something? I could not find much in the notes section.

Deactivation would mean deletion itself. Refer link once.

@Jaspal Singh That link does not appear to be valid anymore. Do you or anyone else have further information? I'm surprised by your statement that deactivating a period would delete the period. That is not how other aspects of ServiceNow seem to work.
