Hi,
I have few questions on PPM Sub Projects:
1) Benefit of using a sub project. How many sub projects can be create.
2) Can we have a sub project's portfolio and program to be different from its parent project.
3) can we add status to subprojects and how will it be effected by the parent project for eg say i have a parent project - PrjA that has sub projects B,C,D .Can B,C,D have their own tasks and % completed? are each sub projects isolated from each other?
4) can project template be applied to sub project?
5) Will parent project and sub project appear in project lists? how can we report on sub projects.
Thanks in advance .

Hi,
Please see the answers below -
1) Benefit of using a sub project. How many sub projects can be create.
Sub-projects are used when a large project is difficult to be managed as a single entity. Break such large projects into subprojects and manage them separately. The Main Project is seen as the Master project and the status of the sub-projects rulls up on the main project.
2) Can we have a sub project's portfolio and program to be different from its parent project.
You will be able to add only main project to the program/portfolio. Its sub projects automatically appear on the portfolio/program. So you wont be able to add it to different portfolios/programs.
3) can we add status to subprojects and how will it be effected by the parent project for eg say i have a parent project - PrjA that has sub projects B,C,D .Can B,C,D have their own tasks and % completed? are each sub projects isolated from each other?
Sub projects have their own % complete and you can manager them in isolation. On the main project, the % complete is calculated based on the % completion of sub projects. There is a business rule 'Roll Up Percent Complete'. You can check the calculation logic on this business rule.
4) can project template be applied to sub project?
Yes, they can be.
5) Will parent project and sub project appear in project lists? how can we report on sub projects.
Sub Projects exists as independent projects. They appear on the project lists.
While adding to programs/portfolios, only main project is available for addition.

Mamta

Dear Mamta,
With regards to point 2 above, OOTB in Paris, for sub projects we are able to select a portfolio other than the parent portfolio and the sub project doesn't even show up in the portfolio of the main project since they may be aligned to a different portfolio.

Attached is a guide that compares Programs and Sub-Projects.
Please mark reply as helpful or correct if applicable (I'm working on a badge!). Thanks, Rae Ann

Added question if I may, is there a way to create a Master Project Template that has Sub-Project Templates embedded in it?
