Could you share what you are using these fields for on the project form? I'm using them on the Project Task form but not on the Project Form. What is their purpose on the project form? Thx.

Not much of a purpose, you can hide from the project form. Most companies just use the Project Manager field instead.
The only reason it exists on the table is because the project table extends the task table and those fields are part of the task table.

In my view the Assignment group can be used from the PMO group, for example. The assigned to - you may need to have other people assigned to the project as well, apart from the PM on ad-hoc basis. For example a Business delivery manager or other that will need to monitor the project.

I generally recommend hiding these attributes on the project record. Assigned to would represent the Project Manager which is already a unique attribute. Assignment group is relevant on the Project Tasks but I do not see a relevance on the Project Record. The only place I have seen this used for is where clients are not actually doing Project Management but instead are using the project record to associate time cards and other artifacts.
