Reflecting Resource Capacity for Future Contractors

Ask:
We’re seeking guidance on best practices for reflecting capacity for future contractors prior to their onboarding.

Background:
Historically, when our organization anticipates a large influx of contractors for a project—such as during the construction of a new hospital, which typically requires a significant number of field engineers—we’ve created a separate resource group specifically for contractors. This allows us to build resource plans for that group without inaccurately impacting the capacity of our existing field engineers.

Current Exploration:
Recent AI recommendations suggest using placeholder or “dummy” user records to represent contractor capacity during the planning phase. These records would be included in the resource group for the relevant time period, and then replaced with actual user records once contractors are onboarded. However, we’re unsure whether this approach is considered best practice.

We’d appreciate any insights or recommendations on how other organizations handle this type of resource planning.
