Hi @anjalinegi1
I’m a ServiceNow trainer and happy to share my thoughts with anyone beginning their ServiceNow journey.
ServiceNow is growing rapidly in both breadth and depth. The best way to start is by earning the CSA (Certified System Administrator) certification, which builds a solid foundation in platform fundamentals, terminology, and core modules. Once you gain hands-on experience through CSA, you can decide your next learning path.
Employers value professionals with multi-module expertise, so after completing CSA, consider exploring areas like ITSM, GRC, HRSD, CSM, or SecOps to broaden your portfolio.
Currently, the training is free, which is a great opportunity — though the real challenge lies in gaining hands-on experience. To overcome this, spend at least 1–2 hours a day engaging with the ServiceNow Community — read discussions, answer questions, and share your insights to strengthen your understanding and confidence.
If your goal is to become a developer, focus on building scripting skills using resources available on developer.servicenow.com. Regular practice will enhance your technical expertise.
Start with the CSA and then choose your direction based on your interests — whether as an Admin, Developer, Business Analyst, Change Manager, or Project Manager. A strong foundation will give you the flexibility to explore any of these paths.
Welcome to this vibrant community space where you can connect, collaborate, and grow. Share your ideas, seek guidance, and contribute to collective learning.
To take the next step, register on Now Learning and begin your ServiceNow learning journey today.

Hi @anjalinegi1
How to Start Learning ServiceNow from a Non-Technical/HR Background
Atul:
I am a ServiceNow trainer, and I’m happy to guide you. As a trainer, I have worked with many students from different backgrounds who successfully built their careers in ServiceNow. So yes, you can definitely start your journey in ServiceNow. The most important things are hard work and dedication.
Since you are coming from an HR background and IT is new to you, it may take some time to learn and become comfortable with the platform. If you want to move into the development side, learning development concepts is important. However, if you are interested in non-development roles such as Business Analyst (BA) or Business Process Consultant (BPC), you can also explore those paths.
Which Modules or Certifications Are Best for Beginners?
Atul:
The basic and first certification everyone should start with is CSA (Certified System Administrator). Most people begin their ServiceNow journey with CSA and then move toward specialized modules like HRSD (Human Resources Service Delivery) based on their interests and background.
Can HR Experience Help in ServiceNow HRSD Roles?
Atul:
Yes, absolutely. Since you are from an HR background, HRSD is one of the best modules for you to start with. Your HR knowledge will be very valuable in understanding HR processes within ServiceNow. There are dedicated training resources available on the Now Learning platform, and you can also refer to my HRSD playlist for guidance.
What Skills Should I Focus on to Get My First Opportunity?
Atul:
Dedication, consistency, and hard work are the key factors. First, decide whether you want to move into a development role or a non-development role, and then focus your learning accordingly. Most importantly, don’t lose hope if things take time—keep learning and practicing consistently.
Any Roadmap, Learning Resources, or Personal Experiences You Can Share?
Atul:
I have already shared some guidance in the previous responses, and I’m always happy to help further whenever needed. Stay consistent with learning, practice regularly, and follow a structured roadmap toward your chosen ServiceNow career path.
