How Can I Transition into a ServiceNow Role?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently working as a Service Desk Engineer with 3+ years of experience and have earned both CSA and CAD certifications in ServiceNow. Despite applying for ServiceNow Developer/Admin roles, I haven’t been getting responses.

For those who successfully transitioned into a ServiceNow role, what strategies worked for you? Also, what do recruiters typically look for in candidates for these roles?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi @schetry

As a ServiceNow Trainer, I’d like to share my perspective on this. Earning certifications doesn’t automatically guarantee a job—experience and hands-on skills are what truly matter.

Trust me, having just the CSA and CAD certifications won't be enough unless you focus on building your network and portfolio. When you mention CAD, I’m not sure if you have a solid foundation in scripting. If not, make sure to prioritize that—it's essential. Also, start connecting with people on LinkedIn.

In addition to CSA and CAD, it’s important to learn more modules. The market is evolving, and there's a growing need for professionals who are skilled in at least 2-3 modules. So, start now! Choose one—ITSM, GRC, SecOps, or HRSD—and begin developing your expertise.

Hello,

I would recommend to develop some project/application of your interest on your PDI instance so you can demonstrate your skills and understanding of the platform during interview for a developer position. It also shows your engagement and effort you have made.

Good luck.
