Hi @izzaijaz , You can start learning with the Java Script as it is mainly used as ServiceNow developer from various online sources. Other programming languages like Angular JS, html and CSS is mainly used for ServiceNow Service Portal development which is good to have and which you can learn at later point of time depending upon on your interest.
The concept of javascript remains the same in across all the modules, however you need to learn about each modules : like how it solves business problem, various tables in a module, purpose of the module, OOB functionality provided by the module etc.
If my response helped, please mark it correct and close the thread so that it benefits future readers.

Hi @izzaijaz
My friends @Harish Bainsla @Rohit Singh
already shared the best ways to approach this, but I'd like to add that, as a ServiceNow trainer, it's crucial to first understand the ServiceNow platform before diving into development. Once you familiarize yourself with the platform, you'll naturally grasp where and why code is required.
ServiceNow primarily uses JavaScript, and I recommend following the JavaScript playlist by Chuck—it’s a great resource for beginners to get started.
Yes, there are many modules in ServiceNow, but don't chase certifications—focus on gaining knowledge. Each module requires significant time to understand and gain hands-on experience. Ideally, you should spend at least six months on each module to build a solid foundation.
Suggested learning path:
- Starting Point – Admin
- Next Steps – CAD → ITSM
- Advanced Modules – HRSD / CSM / GRC (Pick based on your interest)
If my response proves useful, please indicate its helpfulness by selecting " Accept as Solution" and " Helpful." This action benefits both the community and me.
