Service Now as a PPM Tool

I'm looking to link up with UK Based Service Now Users that use SN as a full PPM tool - end to end lifecycle.  I'm new to my organisation and the adoption of SN for Project and Portfolio Management doesn't appear to be great, in part, I think due to some turnover of staff in recent months, so no ownership of the change management required.

I've not used SN before for PPM and have mixed feelings about it for PPM, but open to learning.  A few of things I would like to be able to understand if SN can do are:

  • Resource Management – Capacity v Demand for all resources and how we reflect that easily into a report.
  • What if Scenario planning
  • We don’t seem to use Portfolio function in SN, I’d be interested in seeing what that looks like and how dependencies across multiple projects are captured and managed
  • How to pull off reports for wider sharing with stakeholders?  E.g. High Light Reports, Risk & Issues Reports,
  • Production of ‘live’ Project Plans – i.e not having to produce something in MS Projects and then save as static document, which can then only be changed within the project folder in sharepoint, so you haven’t then got a ‘living’ project plan which can be easily updated and accessed within SN.
  • How are tasks linked to milestones
  • How are lessons learned captured and reported on to inform new project risk and issues.

Hi,

I am a UK based PM in IT dept for a US based manufacturing org.

Not sure how much help I can be just now,  we are just rolling out SN for PPM so I have no maturity with it yet,

For what it's worth, The module does cover pretty much every thing you would need in a project lifecycle so can be a single tool.  We are looking to use it as a single tool, no more MS Project or PowerPoint reports.  We will use some PowerBI for users who don't have a SN license but the general approach to projects is we are going all in with SN.

If you already use SN in the org you can do a lot with PPM module so to get a decent feel for it I suggest getting a demo of the module from SN or a partner.  I wouldn't try to implement PPM module without a partner or SME anyway. It's too large and configurable for that to be successful in most orgs.

I maybe in a position to give you a bit more in a few months when we have it fully rolled out.
