Hello Everyone,
We have encountered a situation. We are using SCCM to populate the computer table in the CMDB. Due to the migration of VMs to a new SCCM server, the serial numbers are changing. As a result, SCCM has started creating new CIs with the same name but different serial numbers. But they are keeping the name of the VMs as it is.
One option to address this issue is to update the CI identifier on the computer table to "Name" only. However, I am unsure of the potential impacts of this change.
Please provide any suggestions on how to tackle this issue.
Thank you.

By having CI identifier with "Name" will not have much impact beacause from OOB we to have one of the CI identifier with "Name". But prioirty should be given to serial number.
Try to check CI data of sample 100 CIs were having same name and serial number there in CMDB with Infra team.
If both have different serial number with same CI name. Try to explain the sitution to client.
Impact would be major on process model like ITSM. Because existing task have same CI with old data.

You will get device id, that you can use as correlation id. Add correlation id before serial number. It will solve the issue.
Next time use data foundation as category for CMDB questions.
