Incident Assignment group based on Category selection.

We have multiple categories and subcategory selection in incident form. We have multiple support group available to support each application. 

What the best practice to assign the assignment group automatically based on Category and subcategory selection? 

Can do it through Workflow?

Go to "Assignment Data Lookups" :

Create a new assignment rule based as below:

When creating a new incident based on the category and subcategory defined, the assignment group or/and assignee will be autopopulated:
