Hi Navachanika,

Here are the steps to complete Task 25:

Step 1: Create the Service Catalog

- In your ServiceNow instance, navigate to Service Catalog > Catalog Definitions > Maintain Catalogs.

- Click "New" to create a new catalog.

- Set the Name to "Consulting Practice".

- Save the record.

Step 2: Create the Categories

- Navigate to Service Catalog > Catalog Definitions > Maintain Categories.

- Click "New" and create a category named "Marketing". In the Catalog field, select "Consulting Practice". Save.

- Repeat to create a category named "Sales" with Catalog set to "Consulting Practice". Save.

- Repeat to create a category named "Workshops" with Catalog set to "Consulting Practice". Save.

Step 3: Create the Catalog Item

- Navigate to Service Catalog > Catalog Definitions > Maintain Items.

- Click "New".

- Set the Name to "Consulting Practice".

- Set Catalogs to "Service Catalog".

- Set Category to "Marketing" (or whichever is appropriate).

- Make sure Active is checked.

- On the Process Engine tab, confirm the Workflow is set to "Service Catalog Item Request".

- Save the record.

Step 4: Associate Categories to the Catalog Item

- On the saved Catalog Item record, scroll down to the related lists.

- Click the "Categories" tab.

- Add the three categories (Sales, Marketing, Workshops) to the catalog item.

Based on your attached screenshots, this matches the expected completed state. The first image shows the Catalog Item form with the correct fields, and the second image shows the three categories (Sales, Marketing, Workshops) associated under the Categories tab.

Hope this helps!

Hi @NAVACHANIKA,

based on your description and screenshot, it seems that you created a catalog item under the catalog, and added it into the 3 categories.

But the item will be empty because there are no variables.

Imagine the Service Portal is an eshop, where categories are sections (e.g. mobiles, laptops, monitors, accessories, ...) and then you have items (iPhone 17, AirPods Max, MacBook Pro).

What you created is just that item in the Service catalog

, you placed it under the 3 categories, which means that if somebody will browse it by categories, they will find it.

But there's no variable (question) so it will be empty form, think of the variables as details of that item in an eshop: Memory (512, 1024 GB), Type (Pro, Max, Standard), Colour (Red, Black, Silver), Keyboard layout (US, UK, PT), OS installed (iOS 26 Tahoe)...

The question is if the categories that you have now are supposed to be categories as known in the library (Thriller, History, Horrors, ...) or if these are supposed to be selectable for data as seen in the variables explained above.

Let me know if you want to discuss any of this, but it seems to me that there's some misunderstanding between the desired goal and the execution....
