Why is a blank incident being created when unlinking alert and incident?

When I unlink the alert and incident using a business rule (by emptying the Task (Incident) field in the alert form), an empty incident gets created instantly. Why is this happening? Is there any OOTB rule that causes this behavior, or something else? Could you please explain why?
