Definition of the View Editor: This is the place in your instance where you decide which elements should be visible to users. It’s also where you define the style of your different items such as layers and places.
At your instance level you already have a Default View Type enabled, but you are able to create extra types depending on your organization’s needs. However, only one of these view types will be used in WSD applications.
View Type and View Editor are a feature of Indoor Mapping. In order to access this feature, your instance should be updated to the Rome family release or any other version after, and the following plugins must be installed Indoor Mapping and Workplace Indoor Mapping.
1. Editing a View Type
You already have a default View Type enabled on your instance. We’ll see how to edit or create a new View Type if necessary. To do this, you must first go to your ServiceNow Instance. In the left filter navigator, you have to search for the Indoor Mapping module and then select View Types.
From here, you can edit existing View Types by selecting the record and applying your edits. It’s also here that you will be able to create extra view types by clicking on NEW.
You will arrive on this page where you will have to fill in the parameters of your new View Type. You will have to name the View Type. The Name will be displayed in the list when you will access to the View Editor in Map Studio.
- Active: if you uncheck this box your view type will be automatically deactivated on your different maps. Note that turning off the view type does remove it; it will be unavailable on your map and there will not be display on your view type list in Map Studio until the type is reactivated.
- Allow Tiles Caching: When tiles caching is selected, map tiles will be stored on the end-user's browser for faster map load. This is done using the cache-control header.
- Outdoor Style: you have three outdoor styles available on your instance. According to the selected theme here is an overview of the outdoor rendering:
You can also import your own outdoor style if you have a global map to display behind your floorplans by clicking on the magnifying glass. You’ll arrive at this window, where you’ll be able to import your file, then click on Submit.
Once all your settings are done you can click on Submit.
Now you will be able to see your View Type on the list.
2. Activate and configure the view in View Editor
To set up your new View Type you will click again on All and search for Map Studio in the Indoor Mapping module.
Once you have created your View Type you need to configure it. Is the view type is marked as active in the instance it will appear in Map Studio. From there you will be able to select which content will be enabled for users.
To configure the view, click on View Editor in the menu bar of your Campus.
Then you can select the default view to make your general edits.
Note: if it’s the first time you configure your view in the View Editor you must click on Not Enabled, then it will be edit instead of this.
To Facilitate how content is selected depending on what should be shown to users, you must decide between these settings. You can always change it later.
All Content: All the imported content will be added to the view
Specific Content: User will need to select the content to display in the view
No content: No content will be displayed in the view
Copy another view: Configured content and style will be imported from another view
If you have created a new building, new layer, new place, new connector or new direction mode don’t forget to add it to your view by unfolding the list of your element and click on + Add ….
After that a pop-up window will appear, where you will be able to check or uncheck the content according to what you want to display in this view.
If you want to change the design of an element it’s also here, you will be able to do the edits.
3. How to configure View Editor
Order: You will be able to choose in which order your elements will be displayed with configuring their display order from 0 to an unlimited number.
Marker style: You will be able to choose whether or not you want the marker and title to be displayed above the campus.
Polygon style: It's here that you can choose which color with opacity you want for each element.
Default Camera - Zoom Configuration: It's where you configure the orientation of the map in an application. To learn more about how zoom levels works click here.
Let’s assume you want another color for your desks, click on Places, find Desks and Select it
A new configuration menu will appear. You can change the color by changing the hexadecimal code or click on the code and choose the color manually.
With this menu you can also choose to display or not the Icon, the Title and the polygon of your place type and change his Icon and his Colors. As well you will be able to choose the zoom level on which your element will be visible.
When your edits are done, don’t forget to click on Save this view. If you want to reset the view, click on the three dots near to the Save button and select Reset the view.
Once you’ve finished changing your Default View, you can personalize your different View Types.
For that, click again on View Editor. Select your View Type and apply your edits.
4. Verifying your settings
To make sure your settings and design are functional you can click on Preview next to View Editor.
Here you’ll be able to choose the view and verify if all is right.
