How to handle inbound emails without a POP3 server?

Hello
We are using a custom email address via the SMTP protocol. Everything is correctly configured and has been successfully tested. The outbound traffic is routed through the custom email address without any issues. However, we would also like to configure the inbound flow. By default, ServiceNow uses the POP3 protocol for this. Unfortunately, we do not have a POP3 server in our company that handles traffic for our custom email address. Is there a solution for this? Is it possible to use another protocol?
Many thanks for a reply.

Your solution works; however, it is considered less secure by our internal O365-team. Therefore, we need to look for a solution that involves configuring IMAP.
