Hi everyone,
Whenever I open App Engine Studio on my PDI, I get this message:
"You need a valid App Engine Studio license to continue working. Any work done in App Engine Studio will be available once this license is reinstated. To reinstate your App Engine license, contact your ServiceNow admin."
Environment:
- PDI release: Australia
- Role: admin
What I tried:
- Set my role to admin on the Developer Site (Profile > Change User Role)
- Logged out of the Developer Site and the PDI, then logged back in
What I expected:
- App Engine Studio opens normally so I can create a new app
What happened:
- The license error screen appears every time (screenshot attached)
Has anyone found a fix for this? Thank you!

Hi @bhavyamy20
If correct user role is already selected in Developer portal (i.e Admin) which is expected, in that case
Repairing plugin Application ID: com.snc.app-engine-studio from plugin -> Quick Action is only the troubleshooting option.

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing the "You need a valid App Engine Studio license to continue working" error on my Personal Developer Instance PDI running the Australia release.
I've already tried the following:
- Verified that my user has the admin role.
- Repaired App Engine Studio (sn_app_eng_studio), version 30.1.2, through Application Manager.
- Searched for com.snc.app-engine-studio in the Installed tab, but no results were found.
However, the error still persists after repairing the application.
I've attached screenshots showing the issue and the steps I've tried.
Could this be related to PDI licensing or provisioning?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Same issue here, and repair doesn’t fix it. Claude traced the license screen to /api/sn_app_eng_studio/v1/generic/license_validation_status, which calls sn_lef.GlideEntitlement.hasLicenseForApp() for com.snc.app-engine-studio and sn_app_eng_studio. It returns {"hasLicenseForApp": false}.
The PDI has no entitlement data. license_details, entitlement_data, and subscription_entitlement are empty, and glide.licensing.auto_entitlement.last_run is blank. The installed AES app is marked paid, while the AES components that show as Licensed are marked free.
It reproduced on two PDIs: an Australia Patch 7 instance upgraded to Brazil Patch 1, and a freshly provisioned Zurich instance. Developer Portal role is Admin, which is the only option. Repairing AES 30.1.2 failed with “Unable to download app package.”
This looks like a PDI entitlement provisioning issue rather than something an admin can fix on the instance. Could someone from the Developer Program check whether AES entitlements are being provisioned to PDIs?
