Communication is always the best option. Understand who is responsible for what, what are the deadlines, due dates etc. I would also think these are two different roles. Project Managers keep the project moving, hold people accountable, high level items, they are not involved with design. The architect is the key technical person who can make decisions, provide guidance to other developers and admins etc.
