ServiceNow Automation Engine enables you to accelerate automation and connect critical systems to ServiceNow for more streamlined and efficient workflows – with API integration, RPA, intelligent document processing, and automation management all on a single platform.

 

In the Utah release, we’re excited to introduce new innovations for Automation Engine such as Stream Connect for Apache Kafka, as well as key enhancements to Automation Center, RPA Hub, Document Intelligence, and Integration Hub. Let's take a look at what’s new in the Utah release!

 

Stream Connect for Apache Kafka

Stream Connect for Apache Kafka is an all-new Automation Engine capability for quickly connecting your Apache Kafka environment with your ServiceNow instance to produce and consume Kafka events at scale. Many of our customers are looking for easier ways to ingest high volumes of data into ServiceNow via Kafka – an open-source distributed event streaming platform for high-performance data pipelines, streaming analytics, data integration, and mission-critical applications.


Now available in the Utah release, Stream Connect for Apache Kafka enables you to leverage the Hermes Messaging Service Feature to integrate with a local Kafka environment. From the ServiceNow platform, you can use the Kafka Message Flow Trigger or outside of Flow Designer with the RTE Consumer, Transform Map Consumer, or Script Consumer (for advanced use cases) to process data. There is also a Producer step which can be used from a Flow Action – or use the producer API. Domain separation is supported for MSPs. Topics are managed in the Kafka Topics table, and Namespaces are supported to determine topic availability by domain. Kafka Subscription page shows performance metrics for a consumer reading from a topic including Input Rate, Queue Depth, Processing Rate, and more.

 

Automation Center enhancements

Introduced in the Tokyo release, Automation Center is a centralized workspace and vendor-agnostic analytics hub that enables you to monitor your entire hyperautomation landscape.


In the Utah release, we’re introducing several key enhancements for Automation Center:

  • Value Dashboard: Get real-time business insights into automation ROI across vendors and track business goals
  • Expanded Automation CIs: Non-RPA automations can now be created as CMDB CIs from selected flows (with or without Integration Hub spokes) to bring in executions and business data into Automation Center dashboards
  • Simplified UiPath RPA integration: no-code setup using UiPath spoke (2.2.0 or later) and web hooks. Eliminates the need for custom JSON scripting and Automation Center API

 

RPA Hub enhancements

 

RPA Hub enables you to rapidly automate common UI integration patterns via RPA bots – with embedded tooling in the Now Platform, a low code RPA design studio for rapid automation, and centralized management of ServiceNow robots.


As part of Utah Early Availability, RPA Hub is now available on all developer PDIs (Personal Developer Instances). Additionally, we’ve made several notable updates to RPA Hub:

  • RPA Recorder: Record tasks and automatically generate an automation flow based on the recording, in order to accelerate time to value and address critical business needs
  • Robot Calendar: Visually determine available timeslots for optimum robot utilization. With all live bot processes in a single calendar view, you’ll have better visibility for robot capacity planning
  • Universal App Connector: Single, unified connector to capture elements for your desktop and browser-based applications

 

Document Intelligence enhancements

Document Intelligence is an AI-powered intuitive and flexible Now Platform application that enables you to accelerate structured and semi-structured document extraction and integrate into larger automation workflows.
In the Utah release, we’re introducing several enhancements for Document Intelligence:

  • Admin experience: New application to set up, configure and monitor Document Intelligence solutions for tracking usage and optimizing solutions across the organization
  • Checkbox data and complex table extraction: Improved AI models and redesigned user interface, process fulfillers can quickly automate document data extraction for even more data types

 

Integration Hub enhancements

In the Utah release, we’ve added several enhancements to Integration Hub:

  • Usage Dashboard: Centralized view into Integration Hub usage, license entitlements, and unlicensed usage. View licensed and unlicensed transactions for compliance purposes, as well as view transactions by top spokes, custom spokes, and actions for granular visibility into adoption trends
  • Integration Hub Import:
    • Support for CSV file as New Data Source
    • Target schema customization for enabling users to specify target fields to map to
    • Auto Map for quickly mapping source pills to target fields, in order to speed up the process of selecting and moving source pills to similarly named target entities

Spokes


Spokes are out-of-the-box connectors that accelerate ServiceNow workflow integration and automation with the most critical business systems. Below is a summary of the latest enhancements for widely-used spokes such as Jira, Microsoft Active Directory, Smartsheet, and more!

  • Zoom Spoke (v4.1)
    • New: Webhook registry support for participant joined, participant left events
  • Aha! Spoke (v1.6.1)
    • Added 20+ actions on feature management, idea management, product management, release management, and strategy management of Aha
  • Monday.com Spoke (v1.1.1)
    • Added 50+ actions on board management, column management, column value management, file management, group management, item management, tag management, team management, update management, webhook management, and workspace management of Monday.com
  • Smartsheet Spoke (v2.1.1)
    • Added 50+ actions on attachment management, column management, comment management, cross sheet reference management, folder management, row management, send via email management, sharing management, sheet management and webhook management of Smartsheet
