We are pleased to announce the following innovations for the CMDB and Service Graph in the Utah family release and associated store releases.
Trusted data is at the center of every technology workflow, at the heart of every AI solution, and at the core of any sound strategic business decision. True data intelligence requires detail about the current configuration of each technology element, yes, but it also requires that detail be placed in context. That context includes the relationship of your technology to the business applications that depend on it, your current business priorities. and your overall digital products and lifecycles. A trusted pairing of detail and context has never been easier thanks to consistent rules to identify and reconcile records between multiple sources and data policies that keep your configuration data free of duplicate or outdated records.
In the November 2022 store release of the CMDB Workspace, customers gained access to a panoramic view of multisource data. The CMDB 360 dashboard makes it easy to harmonize configuration data coming from multiple systems, highlighting both gaps and overlapping sources so that discrepancies can be easily identified, and potential duplicates resolved by addressing them at their root.
In the Utah family release, this dashboard will be available out-of-the-box for customers with the CMDB Workspace installed and who are using more than one source to populate the CMDB.
Customers seeking to stay on top of complex, overlapping configuration data sets will appreciate the simplicity and ease of the impressively user-friendly CMDB 360 interface. Not only does the interface provide commanding views of all data sources feeding the CMDB, but customers can take advantage of new CMDB 360 wizards to deepen and extend their analysis in purpose-built queries, reports, and dashboards. Whether you are just looking for basic information on your deployed technology or you are doing something more fundamental like comparing the data sources behind your CMDB and addressing gaps, the new functions on the CMDB 360 dashboard will make it easier for you to create trusted data intelligence and to take action on it.
Additional capabilities on the CMDB Workspace have also been enhanced in recent sore releases to give users a more powerful user experience and make it easier to navigate to any and all useful features. These features include Intelligent Seach, the ability to search the CMDB with everyday natural language powered by AI. They also include prescriptive suggestions to stay on top of an accurate and healthy CMDB and real-time views of recent activity to add and track new configuration elements.
Data reflecting the current configuration of technology as found in the CMDB is not the only business data that must be clean, accurate, and free of confounding noise to help your organization run smoothly. Core business data like locations, employees, users, and cost centers must also be clean and accurate to ensure the proper function of common daily business processes like onboarding. moves, changes, and requests.
Beginning in the Utah release, you can process business records including location, department, or cost centers using the same mechanism and set of best practices you have already honed to keep your CMDB data clean and consistent. The identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) uses a simple and easily understood method to identify records, thereby preventing duplicates. It also uses consistent and transparent methods to allow you to select which source you trust most for each populated field.
Recent technology surveys indicate that a majority of organizations have already moved some of their critical business functions to the cloud. Those same surveys also indicate that majorities of organizations also plan to retain some systems in self-hosted, on-prem solutions. In other words, if you have a hybrid cloud and on-prem presence you are in good company.
The Utah release will assist technology leaders to visualize their cloud journey by graphically representing the high-level proportion of cloud and non-cloud resources. It also helps them communicate recent progress against their hybrid strategy by tracking recent progress standing up new cloud or on-premises resources.
Stay tuned to the Innovation Lab on the ServiceNow store for an exciting, upcoming user experience that combines the Dependency and Service Map views in a single, unified map view that will preserve the best of both existing views of CI relationships and add exciting and powerful new capabilities.
