Archiving millions of records

Hello I am working on cleaning up the data in our CMDB. We have identified a table of network adapters that is of no use to us and we would like to archive. The problem is there are 5 million records in the table. I set up archive rules but at the current pace it will take 500 days to archive all the records. Is there a faster way to archive the entire table worth of records?

Were these populated accidentally without serving any purpose and were they of no use previously also? If that is the case, you can go ahead and directly delete those using table cleaners. No need to even archive if they are not referenced in any task records.

But if they were valid CIs which you needed earlier and if they were referenced in task records, you should follow the recommended process of archiving and later deleting after a pre-defined deletion period.

Hi Daniel, What did you end of doing to remove these network adapters? We are currently on Vancouver and have just recently implemented ITOM Discovery and various related components.  We are in the same situation as you with 4 million network adapters to "get rid of".  Sounds like you are/were doing the same things that I am doing now: I have defined Retire and Archive Policies and Scheduled Jobs that create CMDBTASK task items that after approval move the CIs to Operational Status of Retire, then to the secondary Archive table.  The process is slow and clunky as you have stated that it will take hundreds of days to complete.  If you found a better, safe, reliable method please share it.
