Duplicate CI's being created on the cmdb_ci_vm_instance and cmdb_ci_linux_server table

Hey everyone,

We are having duplicate CI's created on our cmdb_ci_vm_instance and cmdb_ci_linux_server tables. The CI's on the cmdb_ci_linux_server are coming from one integration, while cmdb_ci_vm_instance are coming in from another. We are trying to see if there is way for IRE to identify and combine the CI's into one record on one of the tables. The only things we have found so far that are the equal on the 2 records are the ip and mac address fields.

Would we be able to create something like that in IRE and if so could someone give me an example?

Via which integration you are importing the VMs? We found out, that there is a automatismus from ServiceNow ootb which is creating a VM record in cmdb_ci_vm_instance table and a "Duplicate" in the dedicated Server tables which depends on the operating system of the VM. The import is running through Service Graph Connector Azure.
This is out of the box functionality. But we were also wondering about that.

Important: You should also keep an eye on the asset table, because an asset is created for each server CI that is created.

These are coming in via a tanium integration that is writing to the cmdb_ci_computer table and aws service management connector plugin.

Just check if the integration is using IRE. If not then that's the cause of duplication. If a data source uses IRE it make sure duplicate records are not added. Also, IRE is avl with ITOM licence.
