Hardware product models - duplicate manufacturers, duplicate models - how to consolidate them?

debated whether or not to ask this in CMDB or HAM but since it's a cmdb table...

somewhere along the way, there are duplicate entries for manufacturers in the company table.  in this example we will say Dell.  So, in the core_company_list, you might have Dell, Inc and Dell (separate entries).  Under each of those you might have 150 product models.  Some of them are the same product models (e.g. Latitude 7440).  You'll have some CIs (and thereby assets) grouped under the  Dell Inc umbrella, others under the Dell umbrella.

Ultimately, we would want normalization to fix this,  however, it also doesn't make sense to have these duplicated entries if we can just clean it up.  also I've received conflicting information as to whether or not normalization would actually update the Dell, Inc to just "Dell" as it appears in the content service.  Some have said normalization will fix it all, some have said normalization will fix nothing.

is there any business rule, script, etc that we can utilize to consolidate these under ONE single manufacturer?

ultimately.  there've been a few too many cooks in some kitchens, not enough in others.  as the now HAM program manager, I'm pushing to get these extraneous duplications, etc cleaned up so we have a healthy data set.

Normalization data services plugin can be used for the purpose of normalizing anything referring to companies (like manufacturer or vendor fields). It is explained in the following URL:

https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/washingtondc-platform-administration/page/administer/normaliz...

For normalizing product models, HAM content service is required. It'll normalize all the models which are available in ServiceNow's content library. That should ideally take care of normalizing majority of product model records which are typically used in organizations.
